Walmart Distribution Center – Mebane
Pike provided construction management at risk services for the new Walmart Perishable Distribution Center located on a greenfield site in Mebane, North Carolina.
The project included a perishable distribution center (PDC), truck maintenance garage (TMG), fuel island (FI), fire pump house (FPH) and guardhouse (GH).
The PDC is a 459,985 SF refrigerated warehouse with multiple cooler zones, office area and maintenance area. The building is a conventionally steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation and single-ply membrane roofing over the warehouse area. Refrigerated areas are enclosed with low temperature insulated metal wall panels with low temperature doors. The refrigeration system utilizes a central ammonia refrigeration system with penthouse evaporators and condensers. PDC is equipped with vertical dock levelers and dock seals along dock walls with overhead wall-mounted pallet storage.
The TMG is an 8,892 SF facility with four truck maintenance bays, a truck wash bay, office area, break area, shower area and parts area. The building is a conventionally steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation and single-ply membrane roofing.
The FI is 1,250 SF and has 2 truck fueling bays. The building is conventionally steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation and single-ply membrane roofing.
The FPH is 1,495 SF and has 2 fire pumps – diesel and electric. Each pump is in a separate room divided by a 2-hr fire barrier. A 350,000-gallon water tank is attached to the pump house to serve as a secondary water supply.
The GH is a 267 SF conventionally steel framed structure with insulated metal wall panels and corrugated metal deck, insulation and single-ply membrane roofing. The GH includes an office area, small restroom and small nook with a counter-top sink.
