Buffalo Zoo, Arctic Edge Exhibit

Pike provided construction management at risk services for the new Buffalo Zoo Arctic Edge Exhibit in Buffalo, New York.

The new 35,000 SF habitat features the zoo’s polar bears, along with bald eagles, lynx and arctic wolves. The project also included a new conservation building to teach the history of the arctic and how to preserve it. The exhibit was constructed of natural materials and have several green features, such as skylights and an eco-friendly heating and cooling system.

Pike supervised and coordinated demolition (including abatement of hazardous material) of the existing bear exhibits.

During the construction schedule development process, Pike made reasonable improvements as necessary to the proposed construction schedule by further recommending the design/construction phasing that reduces the proposed duration of construction. These items included identification of long lead items, further development of a phased construction strategy, initiation of preliminary discussions with the approving agencies to expedite their reviews, and proactive interaction with subcontractors to establish their commitment to the project’s budget and schedule objectives.
