Glastonbury-East Hartford Magnet School, a NASA Explorer School
Pike provided construction management services for the construction of a new two-story Magnet Elementary School with a planetarium.
Additional features included a gallery, science lab, classrooms, cafeteria, gym, basketball court with bleacher seating for 200, and a full size soccer field. The entrance to the school has a “wall of science” complete with television screens, fish tanks, weather stations and a large terrarium. The state-of-the-art facility is a partnership of both town’s school systems, in collaboration with the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC).
The school is unique in having a 40 foot diameter immersive planetarium as part of the school’s extensive collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its designation as a NASA Explorer School. This facility boasts state-of-the-art technology and a tipped semi-spherical projection surface.
The project was built to receive LEED Silver certification.
