Piez Hall
Pike provided construction services for the addition to Piez Hall, a 47-year-old facility located on the SUNY Oswego campus. The new addition more then tripled the existing facility to 230,000 SF resulting in a new comprehensive science and engineering complex.
The project received LEED Gold certification. Green aspects of the new facility include an exterior featuring a terra cotta material made from recycled materials, utilization of alternative energy sources, solar shading considerations, and natural light infusing the building. An atrium-like space includes a cafe, a planetarium, and social space with open access computing capability.
The four-floor structural concrete addition involved deep excavation with a soil retaining system, cast-in-place foundations and decks, as well as existing underpinning. Pike poured approximately 13,000 cubic yards of concrete for this project and self performed concrete, terra cotta, and drywall.
The Piez Hall project received the AGC NYS Construction Industry Informal Partnering Award.
