United States Land Port of Entry

In order to facilitate the expansion of the international crossing from Champlain, New York, into Canada, Pike was hired to provide construction management services for phases two and three of the modernization project.

The project was designed to improve the existing United States Border Station with an emphasis on site development, road construction, and infrastructure in accordance with the General Services Administration quality standards and requirements. It also meets the specific tenant/agency security requirements, including the Department of Homeland Security, Food and Drug Administration, United States Fish and Wildlife Agency, and APHIS Veterinary Services.

The original station, the second busiest in New York state and the sixth busiest commercial crossing from the United States into Canada, has not seen a major renovation or modernization in over 35 years. With over 1,000 commercial vehicles passing through the United States inspection point daily, this improvement project has been a top priority among state and federal representatives.

The project included the construction of a new cargo building, a new main administration building, a new export control building, a new vet services building, new inspection booths and related sitework to facilitate vehicle processing through the facility.

The US Land Port of Entry’s design received LEED Silver certification with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Among its other duties as construction manager, Pike was responsible for making sure the contractors follow the construction specifications so that the LEED requirements were satisfied.
